Alexey Poltavchenko

Cello Studies

Alexey Poltavchenko, cellist, graduated from the National Academy of Music in Odessa, Ukraine in 2011, where he also played with the Odessa String Orchestra, Odessa Philharmonic, and Chernigov Philharmonic. He continued his study with Riza Gimaledinov, cellist of the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, Georgiy Lomakov, cellist of the Magdeburg Opera House in Germany, and with William Cernota, cellist of the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra. Following 12 years performing in string duos and quartets aboard Cunard, Holland America, Oceania and Celebrity Cruises to destinations around the world, Alex is currently based out of Chicago where he is pursuing his Masters in Cello Performance at Roosevelt University under Richard Hirschl, cellist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Alex’s wife Naomi is a dancer and aerial artist, and together they own a German Shepherd rescue dog named Brutus.
